On terroist attacks on UAE and how I see it!

Before you start reading this - you will ofcourse will refresh your memory of my statement "nan oru muttal inga "(I'm stupid)" and these are just observations, when I bored and thought too much... along with a couple of shots of Raspberry Vodka!

The past couple of days I've been reading this people hashed and re-hashed piece on the local newspapers claiming that the UK, then the US embassies have raised alerts over a possible terrorist threat in Dubai.

Plan of Action?

The things about these alerts are that, why would you raise something without giving even a bit of information to the public.

Exactly what should people plan of action be? Don't travel to this country or Expats that live here should come back home or don't go roaming around in public places ( which surely cannot be classified in Dubai)??? What is the message that they are trying to convey? What does an alert mean?

Ofcourse you will not give us every bit of information available from the intelligence reports... but a suggestive plan of action is something that I as an expat would like to look forward too...

But why attack?

Hello, It's summer stupid. All the mommies and their babies have gone back home for a holiday. The Arabs have gone away on a holiday to Europe escaping the heat. So this is the only time where roads are actually not overflowing with cars and people actually reach their destinations on time. Why would you target this country in summer? I would say come back during DSF!

Moreover think about this, UAE is an Arab country. When your targets are Bush and his allies and a random country like Finland - why would exactly bother coming to attack the UAE?

Given that these threats are not by the Al Qaeda cos we all have, at some point, have heard this undisclosed source story of Osama bin Laden being treated in UAE during a war and it was his assurance to the rulers in the UAE that he won't harm UAE in anyway cos of their kindness. That is again not a very surprising news cos we do know a lot of Indian baddies live in UAE and have not yet been extricated. The big one called Dawood Ibrahim actually used live some where closer to the Dubai Ruler's Palace if a birdie told me right!

If it's one of those smaller groups trying to impress the Commander in chief of Al Qaeda, I'm still left to wonder what the exact cause could be to attack this nation than any others already on the list or are they jus mere jealous that Dubai has come a long way from the rest of the Gulf...

Errrmmm where?

Now this is the part where I place the bets on these actual attacks: Where in Dubai would you think would be a good place to attack?

If the attacks were to cripple the increasing tourists coming into the Dubai and marveling the biggest, tallest and largest, fattest - then it has to be where loads of people are around and it has to be one single location.

We do have loads of malls with loads of people and their cars.... I would say Mall of the Emirates is a very good target with Ski Dubai being the attraction there... Dubai does has it's disadvantage as being a Islamic tourist country here! I'm sure with one of these self claimed groups "Islamic"tag to the country can hurt quiet a bit.

If their attacks had anything to do with seeking attention to a cause: I would say some of the Iconic structures in UAE - Burj Al Arab will surely be a attention stopper cos of it's fake "7Star" status... Also will be the Trade Center ( which we will be a huge relief for the GOVT as there are talk of demolishing it annd building a swanky new one) or DUH the Emirates Tower. I personally would prefer the Modesh Fun CIty, adjacent to the Trade center though... Arrrgh that stupid thing with it's smile gets on my nerves...

If it's more to do with crippling the Dubai altogether: then I'd choose the DIFC - located conveniently on the Sheikh Zayed Road... But if I was an really intelligent terrorist then I would surely go for the Spinal cord of Dubai - The Deira Trading Souk...

I wouldn't really pick any of the property development landmarks cos am sure even if one of the above goes down the real estate would obviously crash. Moreover The sheer size of Dubai Marina or Gardens or the Business bay with Burj Dubai will be a lot of work over a vast stretch of land...

What could happen?

Now if you say that other GCC countries have had their share of attacks and nothing earth shattering has happened and we can still see the growth and It would change Dubai's growth around: True! But it would slow down Dubai's growth tremendously and (good thing) inflation will com down drastically... which could hurt the economy directly.

What will I do?

I don't think I will go out of the country for sure... If I do perish I would like be called an "angel" and will be remembered for getting into unwanted trouble and cartoon printed undies. And my obituary must be nothing lesser than a full page wrap on a newspaper!

Psst: Come on please don't take any of the above seriously and brick bat me down.. I am just a curious observer and some of these might no have made sense to me! Ok?
